Westerham R N L I Fundraising

Saving lives at sea without losing your own, or the lives of your crew, requires skill, courage and committment.

Lifeboat on the Tyne

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is an independent charity, and does not receive any funding from the UK government.

Lifeboat Crew

The RNLI has saved more than 137,000 lives since its foundation in 1824.

Volunteers are the heart of the RNLI and they rely on more than 40,000 volunteers - on lifeboats, at lifeboat stations, on beaches, and in fundraising.

Events in 2010

On Sunday 31st January 2010, the Westerham walkers are invited to join an RNLI event at Denbies Vineyard near Dorking. To see the RNLI poster for the event click on Dorking Welly Walk.

The Dorking event is one of several Welly Walks the RNLI is organising that weekend throughout England.
To quote the RNLI website:

The Dorking walk will take place within the picturesque grounds of Denbies Wine Estate, the largest vineyard in England. It will be approximately two miles in length and will take in some of the beautiful scenery of the grounds.
Because of the hilly nature of the terrain, unfortunately the walk isn’t really suited for smaller children, pushchairs or people in wheelchairs. However, the breathtaking views offered by the Surrey Hills location more than make up for this.

The walk starts at 11am and there are various activities and exhibits along the way. There is a cafe at Denbies where you can buy refreshments - picnics are not permitted, but you might like to bring a flask...
There is an RNLI registration fee which is £4 if paid in advance (children £3), £10 on the day (children £5).

To see a Google map of how to get to Denbies Vineyard click here. The full address is London Rd, Dorking, Surrey RH5 6AA.

The cost of a pair of Lifeboatman's boots is £40 and the RNLI invites every family group to try to raise sponshorship for a pair of boots.

For more details, and advance registration, contact the Westerham RNLI fundraising group by calling
John Edwards on 01959 564063 or email him at grosvenorhouse@webspeed.net.
He will be at Denbies at 1030am.
